There is the good bad and ugly in all situations and unfortunately the fashion world has a lot of ugly. Barney’s New York has agreed to pay $525,000 in racial profiling inquiry . The Madison Avenue flagship store has settled in this case , allegations of deliberating targeting minorities that entered their store. New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman heard from customers and former employees that a pattern of racial profiling began when the store tried to crack down on a high spike in theft and credit card fraud. Complainant’s told that the store’s security team or “loss prevention unit” made a habit of keeping watching over African American and Hispanic shoppers.
This problem was not only reported at Barney’s but at Macy’s department stores as well . The Macy’s is still under review . It’s never fun when you go into your favorite department store and you are followed and profiled because of your race. Let’s hope these ugly business practices are put to rest.
