This really has been a fashion forward Summer to say the least . One of my favs for this season was when I had the chance to attend a Bloganista Mini Conference. Blogging is addictive , especially if you have a flair for sharing your everyday endeavors. Me myself , I started blogging in 2010 . Yes it all began with a blog ! My vice is fashion and I wanted to share my fabulous finds and buys with the world. Through years of fashion blog posts, fashion shows and editorials , my blog evolved into a fashion editor’s position. So you see blogging has thousands of possibilities and can evolve into something bigger than we could ever imagine.
So when I heard about the See Jane Write Mini Con , I had to attend and get back to my roots as a blogger. First let me tell you a little more about See Jane Write . See Jane Write is an organization for Birmingham – area women who write and blog . See Jane Write was founded in 2011 by local writer , teacher and blogger Javacia Harris Bowser. Through See Jane Write, Bowser organizes workshops, panel discussions and networking events to enrich, promote and support female literary artists and social media mavens. SeeJaneWriteBham.com
I arrived at the Mini Con just in time to get a great seat and munch on a chic continental breakfast . We were able to network and exchange business cards and introduce ourselves to one another and our blogs and websites. Shortly after we were welcomed by founder Javacia Harris Bowser of See Jane Write. The keynote speaker of the morning was the ever fabulous Alexis Barton of SameChicDifferntDay. Alexis shared with us her mission to be the best writer she could be and the responsibilities that came with it . ” If it’s your passion , you go through highs and lows ” . Alexis gave advice on how to stand out in the sea of life style bloggers . Alexis story was very inspirational and it is encouragement to any one who wants to start their own blog . Next up was a panel on how to be a bloganista ! Birmingham bloggers shared tips on time management , blog promotion, developing blog post ideas, working with brands and how to dress like a fashion blogger. Some people shy away from fashion blogging because they think you have to have mega bucks to dress like one. Not true ! Panelist included Heather Brown of My Life Well Loved , Erika Bunker of Erica Bunker DIY Style, Vanessa Culpepper of Budding Fashionista, and Bertha Hidalgo of Chic in Academia. After everyone came back from lunch the conference continued with the next segment Beyond the Blog.
Beyond the Blog : In this panel , Editors of local publications and local bloggers shared tips on how you can use your blog to get freelance writing gigs and even a full time job. It is totally possible , it happened for me !This panel included Alexis Barton the morning’s keynote speaker, Williesha Morris of My Freelance Life, Tanya Sylvan of All in Stride and Carla Jean Whitley of Birmingham Magazine.
The evening concluded with a sweet cake break from Edgar’s Bakery , one of my fav’s here in Birmingham. Closing the evening and the conference out was keynote speaker Megan LaRussa Chenoweth of Southern Femme. How amazing is it to have a Bloganista Conference in my own backyard ! I left fully inspired by all of the women that took part in the conference. Not only did it re-energize my passion for writing about what I love but it also showed me that with hard work and perseverance dreams do come true. It’s pretty cool that there are others that share the same dream. If you are looking to start a blog See Jane Write is a excellent platform to become a part of. Blogging has so many avenues …what’s your’s ?
